Caring for women who are expecting a child is a collaborative effort, often with input from multidisciplinary healthcare teams that pay careful attention to mom and baby’s physical health. However, less talked about and often excluded from routine prenatal care is a woman’s mental health status. Though the baby blues and postpartum depression are widely recognized as potential complications of pregnancy and childbirth, consistent screening and treatment varies widely and is often dependent on location and healthcare service access.
